About

The School of Nursing’s undergraduate nursing program has patient-centered care at the core of the curriculum. The School of Nursing offers three subplans for a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (Traditional BSN, RN-BSN & Accelerated Second Degree). Each plan is intense and demanding. Students must complete all prerequisite courses before taking the nursing courses. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing prepares students for entry level nursing practice as well as future graduate study. All students must successfully complete the pre-major requirements before they will be considered for admission to the major.

Career Possibilities

The undergraduate nursing program prepares a clinical practice generalist. Students attain the knowledge, competencies, and attitudes to practice nursing safely, effectively, and efficiently.

Graduates of the program are expected to demonstrate competencies consistent with being a critical thinker, a culturally competent caring provider of health care, an effective communicator, and a responsible manager of health care. Graduates are prepared to be successful during the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), which is required to practice and be licensed as a registered nurse in all states.

Workplace

Graduates are prepared to practice in diverse locations such as hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, public health, home health, elementary and high schools, and businesses such as health insurance or case management companies.

Apply Now RN to BSN applications are open January 1 to March 31, 2021.
  • Complete a Utah State University (USU) Admissions Application and be accepted (if not currently enrolled or returning from a Leave of Absence). There is a $50 application fee.
    • Submit all official college transcripts (if transfer student); or high school or GED verification to USU Admissions.
    • TOEFL score is required for non-native English-speaking students.
  • Prerequisite Requirements
    • 2.67 overall GPA
    • RN courses completed with a grade of “B-” or better.
    • Three course attempts for any one course will be accepted, with a maximum of 10 total repeats, including transfer or equivalent courses.
    • Applicants must have completed an AAS/ADN RN program in an accredited program approved by the US Department of Education.
  • Complete the online RN to BSN Completion application.
    • Submit copy of receipt for non-refundable $30.00 application fee.
    • Submit a copy of your current, unencumbered RN license. If currently enrolled in an AAS/ADN nursing program, please submit copy of RN license by August 31.
    • Submit information on where you completed your AAS/ADN RN degree and when you completed your AAS/ADN RN degree.
    • Submit a personal statement, 150 words or less, double spaced, 12-point font in PDF format.
      • Provide a brief description of your purpose for pursuing your BSN and your goals with completion of the degree.
    • Submit a professional resume in PDF format that include total years of RN and relevant healthcare experience.
    • Nursing Application Deadlines:
      • Fall - January 1 to March 31
      • Spring - June 1 to August 31
  • If you accept a position in the RN to BSN Completion program, you will be required to abide by certain policies and procedures, which can be found in the Student Handbook.
  • Letters of acceptance/non-acceptance will be sent 6-8 weeks after application close date.
